Business Improvement is not only about doing things better, it’s about demonstrating that change is having a positive effect on business performance, including the bottom line.  To do this a number of overlapping methodologies and business philosophies need to be addressed.  XGC Consulting provides a systematic means of integrating these approaches and achieving this goal.

Performance Measurement

This relates to measuring the things that matter to demonstrate improvement.  XGC Consulting can help derive appropriate metrics (e.g. balanced scorecard) and provide an evidence-based approach to ensure delivery. 

Knowledge Management (KM) 

KM is a mixture of tools, techniques, processes and IT delivery systems to help the sharing and management of knowledge through collaborative working.  XGC Consulting are recognized international experts in applying KM in the nuclear industry.  We have developed processes and tools for various organization in the nuclear sector and applied these to deliver real business benefit. 

Competency/Competence Management

Competency and Competence management are two strands that overlap and are essential for business operations.  We can implement competency frameworks and use tools and techniques to measure the competence of individuals.  This is essential for compliance with site licensing requirements.  Training provisions (e.g. using SAT techniques) and coaching/mentoring solutions can be developed to improve competence following gap-  analysis.

Organizational Learning

This is clearly related to KM and competence management and ensures that lessons learned are readily communicated and implemented throughout the business.  We can advise on appropriate “push-pull” methodologies to help sustain organizational learning in both the short and long-term. 

Management Systems 

Management Systems are necessary to ensure that formal controls are put in place to reduce risk and improve business performance.  We can deliver integrated (HSEQ) management systems (business process and working procedures) taking into account the other elements in the business model as described above.

Change Management 

Change management usually refers to the leadership processes that are undertaken to ensure effective delivery of change in an organization.  Change is an essential ingredient of all the above elements – without change there can be no improvement!  We can advise on implementation aspects and success factors for change and provide project management services to facilitate delivery. 

Support Tools 

All of the elements in the model require support tools to assist implementation.  These comprise systems and methodologies to help focus improvement where it is needed and to facilitate real measurable gains.  Support tools also provide an intermediate step before change is institutionalised into the management system for long-term benefit.  

Integration 

Integration between the various elements is essential to ensure completeness and to harmonize approaches.  Integration is achieved by having a full understanding of the big-picture.  Not many organization have the understanding or capability to deliver this holistic approach.
