Theatre Lean Improvement project for the Institute of Neurological Sciences at the Southern General hospital in Glasgow

Facilitating & Supporting the delivery of a 3 month Lean Kaizen Theatre improvement project for the Institute of Neurological Sciences at the Southern General hospital in Glasgow utilising a cross functional team of Nursing, Surgical and support staff.

Using a Lean Kaizen Approach over a 3 month period which included the following stages:

1) Planning & Preparation of project including data collection, process observation and training in Lean principes and the approach.

2) Value Stream Mapping of the Patient journey from Admitting ward through the theatre process to Discharge.

3) 5 day Kaizen week implementing actions agreed from VSM stage, including; Staff Training & Development, Patient Flow, Theatre Equipment and stock, Theatre Scheduling & List Management, Facilities & Laundry Services and Theatre instrumentation.

4) 30 Day Sustain period where the teams and process owners focus on rolling out the Kaizen week changes to all Theatres and staff.

So far has delivered 66% reduction in lost sessions, reduced SCN time spent on Admin by 50% and reduced stock held in Theatre suite by 40%.
